Seikima-II is my favorite band ever. I've been to Japan 3 times to see them live, and every time, they are unbelievable and their Japanese fans (called Shinja) are very loyal and generous in sharing their love for this band. It's a delight to observe people's reaction to them as they fall in love with the band, just as I did years ago.
Saki's favourite band. Whenever you see her playing at home she has a poster of The Demon Kogure on her wall. Luke and Ace are two of her favourite guitarists, she wears a version of Ace's paint during Nemophila's Of Rock City by Kiss. The Demon Kogure has some pretty good English as he spent time in America in his teens. This was from a reunion show with all living former members.
Yeah that frontman is *Demon Kakka,* he is a legend. He has always been on character, his true identity is not known. And he is pretty popular because he also became a big commentator on the sumo championship, so he is pretty popular outside of the rock scene. Always on character in there too. If they had not been restrained to Japan Heavy Metal scene, I think he would be considered one of the best singers in metal of all times. This guy is at Bruce Dickinson levels of showmanship or even more, and is a beast singer. SEIKIMA-II is Kobametal teenage years favorite bands. Kobametal is BABYMETAL producer, he took a lot of inspiration in them (for example, we have not seen Suzuka Nakamoto since she got into BABYMETAL, she is always SU-METAL now). Some song like Catch me if you Can is a response to a Seikima-II song called The House of the Wax Dolls, where a demon is kidnapping little girls and converting them into wax dolls. I love this band, they have so many songs that you can lose a little bit, I will suggest my favorites ones: -Big times changes -1999 Secret object. -El dorado.
Seeing a couple of their live tracks on some reaction channels basically made me buy a couple of their Blu-rays and a CD even if it's not a style of metal I generally tend to gravitate towards. That said, I don't think there are a lot of metal fans that don't at least appreciate classic metal/heavy metal at least to some extent. I still haven't gotten around to watching any of them, but I get the urge to do so whenever I see a live video pass around. It's more a lack of time than anything else unfortunately. But I agree, I am always impressed by Demon Kakka/Demon Kogure (the frontman) stage presence. Some wikipedia info: They basically stopped in 1999, but have had a couple of reunions which coincided with a couple of live performances since then with a recent one around 2020/2021 which was apparently postponed because of COVID. They did also apparently release a new album this year, their last one being from 1999. They are apparently also touring at the moment until February, 2023. I'm curious if they are going to drop an other Blu-ray/DVD or not since that was what they did the previous reunion tours or maybe post some video online.
Seikima-II reminds me of KISS meets GWAR meets KING DIAMOND! 😆 They kick ass, no doubt. Some of their songs remind me of Helloween. They are also a big influence in the Japan music scene. Japanese are shinto-buddhist, but they seem to be fascinated with Christian concepts. The western metal music scene was full of satanic references for decades. A lot of western metal bands played shows in Japan over the years. KISS was wildly popular in Japan many years ago. It was considered a rite-of-passage to play the famous Budokan.
